SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION
HINTON COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Hinton CSD, a growing school district just north of Sioux City, is seeking an outstanding educational leader to serve as superintendent starting on or around August 1, 2009. The five-member board of education is seeking candidates with high integrity, outstanding leadership qualities, and a strong focus on student achievement. Completed applications must be received no later than Wednesday, June 24, 2009. This vacancy is due to the resignation of Mr. Al Steen. Al has successfully served the district as superintendent since 1999. He has resigned to accept a new superintendent assignment in Arizona. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT (“quality education with a personal touch”): Hinton is a growing school district with an approximate enrollment of 700 students. (This includes about 175 students open-enrolled into the district.) This is a district that is made up of only one community. All of the students are located in one building. A bond issue will be voted upon this fall to build a new elementary addition and an athletic complex. Hinton is located just a few miles north of Sioux City and is connected to the metro area via a four-lane highway. The population of Hinton is approximately 810. DISTRICT HIGHLIGHTS: * Extensive professional development for teachers committed to “No Child Left Behind.” * “Little Hawks” Pre-School/Daycare for 3-5 year olds. * Discovergarten, a transitional kindergarten for five-year olds. * SOAR, a before/after school program for pre-K through sixth grade students. * Small class size, allowing for individual attention for each student. * Olweus Anti-bullying Program. * Parent access to online grade reports. * Hinton Community School, large enough for challenging curriculum, yet small enough to provide a personal touch. * Open-enrolled into the district—175 students. Open-enrolled out of the district—45 students. * Courses offered for dual credit with Western Iowa Tech Community College. * College Sociology and Psychology taught on campus by college instructors. * AP English and AP Calculus taught on campus. * Ninety-five percent of seniors attend post-secondary institutions. * Band and chorus consistently receive superior (1) ratings at contest. Several students quality for OPUS, Honor Choir, Honor Band, and All-State. * DECA club and FCCLA active at state and national levels. * Wireless Mobile Computer Lab. * Successful teams in football, cross country, volleyball, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, softball, and baseball. 2008-2009 DISTRICT STAFF: The district employs 52.2 FTE. This includes a full-time superintendent; a full-time business manager; a FTE high school; a FTE middle school principal; and a full-time elementary principal/curriculum director. The per-pupil certified staff ratio is: Elementary 12.9 Middle School 15.3 High School 12.4 FINANCIALS: The overall budget for 2009-2010 is $9,488,928. They are projecting a solvency ratio of 12.2 % for FY 09; a conservative projected unspent balance of $880,854; and a conservative projected general fund cash balance of $700,888.
